Phantom Beach Throwdown
The beach is haunted, and your little crab has been hit by a curse that drains it's life! Survive all 6 waves by defeating whatever ghoulish things lurk before your countdown reaches 0!
Controls:
- Arrowkeys / W, A, S, D: Move
- Spacebar / Z / H / Left Mouse Button: Pick Up Object / Throw Held Object
- R: Restart Game (Much like a lifebuoy, it's there just in case of emergencies!)
How to Play
Grab, Throw, and Catch!
- Pick up beach objects scattered around the beach
- While holding an object, its number counts down
- Throw objects at enemies to lower their life number OR match their number to instantly defeat them.
- Catch your own thrown objects before they hit the ground to build a combo.
Defeating Enemies and Destroying Objects
- If your thrown object's number matches the object or enemy's number, it will disappear instantly!
- Otherwise, hitting an object simply lowers its number.
- If anything that exists on this beach reaches zero, it will disappear, which includes you too!
Combos and Delay Time
Want to delay your demise? Get and "Collect" large combos, and defeat enemies before the next wave appears!
- You gain a combo for each thing the object hits without touching the ground.
- When an object disappears, the combo it has is converted into seconds, which is added into your Delay Time.
- Delay time delays your time left on this beach and pauses your life counter's countdown temporarily.
- Get larger combos and wait for the object's time to expire!
- If you defeat all the enemies before the next wave appears, you'll get 15 extra seconds + the remaining seconds until next wave.
If your crab is down for the count, don't worry! The counter-curse to the curse is that you can continue the game without game overs, unless you inconveniently forget how to press buttons for 10 seconds!
Known Bugs (Ugh)
- The next wave countdown timer will continue to go even on the final wave! There's no more waves, please stop!
- If you defeat all the enemies on the final wave before this timer ends, you are rewarded with...not winning the game. The game will continue with no win condition met. Don't worry, if you see the "Waves Left..." as 0 and the game is continuing anyways, that means you are EVEN MORE OF A WINNER in my book! Go enjoy the beach with the rest of whatever objects you have laying around, continue forever to enjoy the spooky waters during your final seconds before you disappear!

- Want to become invincible? Good news! If you let the Phantom Jellyfish (That large and slow enemy on the final wave), touch you, you take 5 damage, but it's possible to go past 0, which the game checks for (not less than 0 like it should be), and into the negatives and continue living forever! I can't believe I missed this!
- Yes, it is possible to run out of objects to throw at enemies on the final wave, making it so that you are soft locked! If you let this happen to you, you can restart the game with "R", and do better this time! I'll try and do better next time as well.
- Sometimes you can catch objects in mid-air...while you are yourself in mid-air from taking knockback from an enemy. Is this intentional? No. Is it cool as heck anyways? Totally!
- You can also sometimes hang on to objects while taking knockback even though the crab is supposed to drop what they're holding. I guess the crab just has a good grip on the situation.
- Let me know if you spot any more bugs that I should put in this list!
If I had more time to work on the game I would, of course, fix all these bugs. I would also like to improve the polish and "readability" of some of the game mechanics such as having a visual and audio cue for when you lose a combo, gain delay time from a combo, hit an enemy such that both numbers match (instantly disappear), indication for when an object in front of the player matches the same number (the red bar in front of the player that's used to help with aiming), and when the player takes damage.
